- The peony comes in every color EXCEPT blue.
- They grow natively in Asia, Southern Europe and Western North America.
- The vase life of peony is only 5 days, but is the peony plant is planted properly, they can live to be 100!
- Marco Polo, famous merchant and explorer, described peonies as “roses as big as cabbages”.
- Partially cooked and sweetened petals of peony are consumed as dessert in China. Fresh petals can be consumed in the form of salad or used as garnish for lemonade.
- Peony blooms from late spring to early summer. Flower buds produce large quantities of nectar which attracts ants.
Tips & Care
- Try to buy peonies when buds are fairly tight and showing full color.
- Cut the stems before placing them in water. Use COLD water.
- Watch the water levels because peonies can drink a lot of water – keep the container filled.
- Peonies last much longer in fresh water than in foam.
- The rate at which peonies will open depend on a number of factors: variety, room temperature and water temperature.
